In India the state Manipur’s most backward district, Tamenglong, is the
state’s largest producer of oranges and picture-perfect tourist
destination. The district is suitable for all kinds of horticulture
crops such as oranges, parkia, papaya, royal chillies, pineapple, and
also lime, coconut, mango, litchi, etc. which can be grown in large
areas of the district.
Though accounts for the bulk of the state’s
orange produce, a large quantity of the citrus fruit rots before
reaching customers because of the pathetic condition of road network and
lack of organized marketing facilities.
